WILMINGTON -- Cake decorating, forensic analysis, and jewelry design are just a few of the hands-on labs that will be offered at the Port City Super Girls event this month.
The Wilmington Police Department is hosting the event to empower at-risk teens, ages 12 to 18, to become great leaders in the community.
Organizers say more and more girls are becoming involved in gangs, and they hope this event inspires them to make positive choices for their futures.
"We're going to have some dancers. We're going to do some workouts. We're going to create some dream boards. We're going to meet people from all walks of life who help to demonstrate that women can do just about anything they want to do," said Linda Rawley, Wilmington Police Department.
The free event will take place on Jan. 30 at Cape Fear Community College.
