On January 12, 1985, a Winter storm brought record amounts of snow across Texas.
For the city of San Antonio, it turned out to be a true "Winter Wonderland" with a whopping 24 hour total of 13.2" of snow that day.
In Austin, 3" covered the grounds across most of the Capitol City, while some on the west and southwest side measured between 7 and 10 inches. Austin officially accumulated 6.9" of snow in total that January.
The "Great '85 Texas Snow Storm", as it would be called, brought the biggest snow event to the Lone Star State since 1950.
Some remember it like it was just yesterday.
Martin Theophilus recalls he and his girlfriend at the time got stranded in the snow at her home in Lockhart.
Martin says "after spending those snow days together, on January 19th we decided to get married. Great decision 31 years ago. Thanks snow!"
I personally recall building a small but noble snowman on my front lawn in southeast San Antonio. My one and only snowman in Texas.
