A longtime bakery in Auburn will shut its door this Christmas Eve after more than 30 years of service. Rose Bakery originally opened in 1899 but has changed locations and owners over the years. Alexa Green spoke with customers to find out what they will miss most.

AUBURN, N.Y. -- Denise Siracusa has worked the past 31 Christmas Eve's with her husband at Rose Bakery. This one though will be her last.

"It's bittersweet but we just need personal time now, so we're going to go to the Carolinas and start an artist studio down there," she said.

The Siracusa's have been serving up halfmoon cookies, cannoli and butter cream cakes since they bought the bakery in 1984. Denise works the front part of the house while her husband Mike handles the baking.

"We take all the orders and then we give each person a number. They come in with their number and we get everything ready  in the meantime. When they come in they give their order number and off we go," she said.

Within just a few hours of opening their doors, Rose Bakery was officially cleaned out, with only premade orders available to be picked up. Some customers though still came in last minute looking for last minute tasty treats.

"I called a couple days ago and I wanted to place an order and they were full. So they said stop in and maybe you can get some, so I stopped in and there's nothing here. I'm so sad," said Flemming resident Cheryl Fritz.

Fritz was one of dozens of customers who stopped by the bakery Thursday. Many agreed it will be hard to replace.

"I think traditions will end because these things cant be replaced from somewhere else. So for some of these traditions, it will probably be the last year," said Auburn resident Elizabeth Emig-Rosekrans.

In the meantime, the bakery and its remaining equipment will go to the auction early next year. The Siracusa's say they are hopeful someone will buy it and continue baking there for years to come.

That auction is set for January 11 at 11 a.m. at Rose Bakery in Auburn. All of their equipment and furniture, including the bakery will be sold off.
