SAUGERTIES, N.Y.  -- Around the Town of Saugerties community members mourn the loss of a fallen firefighter who had everything to live for.

On Saturday the Mount Marion Fire Department assisted the Centerville Fire Department at 11 Fel Qui Road in Woodstock. Officials said Firefighters from the Mount Marion Fire Department entered the basement to help put out the fire when 19-year-old Jack Rose got separated from his team.

Rose was quickly found and removed from the basement. Once outside, Rose was unresponsive, his fellow firefighters tried to revive him at the scene. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Outside the Centerville Fire station reads, “Rest easy brother Jack, we’ll take it from here.”

The Mount Marion Fire Department is also paying their respects with the sign “In memory of Captain Jack Rose.”

Their station Chief, Dave Ayers, in a press release said the department is “Devastated over the loss of such a young life and a devoted member of the community,” and that Rose was “loved by all in the fire service who knew him.”

Officials said Rose was a three year member of the Mount Marion Fire Department and just last month was elected Captain for 2016.

The cause of the fire and Rose's death are still under investigation.
