The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man who apparently drowned while diving in a golf course pond - looking for balls.

The man was found at the Golf Club at Star Ranch east of Round Rock, just off State Highway 130.

The man was wearing what a sheriff’s spokesman called “rudimentary” SCUBA gear.

He was reported missing on Wednesday by his father.

He said his son was part of a stealth golf ball recovery group that salvages balls lost in water hazards to re-sell.

The man's body has been sent to the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
