WILMINGTON -- The Cape Fear Fair & Expo is back open for business on Wednesday, after closing down Monday and Tuesday due to rain. However, fair employees and volunteers stayed busy while they were closed, maintaining the saturated fairgrounds and taking care of the animals.
Fair Manager, Skip Watkins, said although they lost about 3,000 visitors, the downpours didn't put a damper on things financially.
"The weekend is where-- if we have rain on a weekend, that's where we have our problems. And fortunately, last weekend was beautiful, and the forecast is giving us some encouragement for this weekend as well," said Watkins.
The fair runs through Sunday.
