The former Oriskany airport and the current New York State Preparedness Training Center has officially changed hands and is now owned by the state.

The facility is used to provide scenario-based training to troops and law enforcement agencies throughout the state and the northeast. For years, Oneida County owned the more than 1,000 acres and leased them to the state.

Friday morning, county and state officials signed the papers finalizing the sale.

"We could not see this land, this property being used for anything better than to protect the people of our state and to prepare those who do that on a daily basis," Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said.

"I hope that we'll see more partnerships with our federal government, too, to utilize this phenomenal facility to ensure that we are training and preparing to take on anything that we need to address in today's world," State Senator Joseph Griffo said.

The facility was sold for $10 million.
