The Kraft-Heinz Company confirmed Friday that it is closely reviewing the future of three New York plants including the Kraft Foods Plant in Avon, Livingston County.
Corporate spokesperson Michael Mullen said an announcement about their future will be communicated in the next week or so. The Avon plant currently employs about 400 workers and produces cool whip and lunchables. The other two plants are in Campbell in Steuben County and Walton in Deleware county southwest of Albany.
The village of Avon's mayor said the plant there is the only manufacturer of Cool Whip in the world.
The Crain's Chicago Business publication quotes sources that Kraft-Heinz is trying to shave $1.5 billion in spending by 2017. It said announcements of the factory closures could come as soon as next week and total 950 jobs.
