RALEIGH-- PNC Arena is set to get a multi-million dollar makeover.

Officials with the area’s board, Centennial Authority, reveals changes coming to the 16-year-old facility on Tuesday.

"I think they delivered a vision that's far exceeded what I even thought they'd do for us. I'm very pleased with it. It's a bold vision,” said the Executive Director of the Centennial Authority Jeff Merritt.

Highlights of the plan include a new rooftop restaurant, a new bar and lounge area on the south end of the arena and a new entrance area in the east and west sections of the arena.

And PNC staff offices are being relocated in the arena’s south end to free up space.

The rooftop deck for fans is expected to be the crown jewel of the project.

"It will open up opportunities on the plaza with Carter Finley Stadium that aren't there now, particularly on a pretty day, pretty night. I can see a lot of potential for having different events up there,” said Merritt.

Board Chair Tom McCormick says the PNC renovation plans have been in the works for some time.

"We spent some time traveling over the last year or so, looking at what other arenas are doing, and we're trying to pick the best of some of those things we saw,” said McCormick.

The renovations are expected to keep the arena competitive and relevant for decades to come.

And if the plan is approved, construction would be phased in during a three-year period without disruptions to area events.

So far, Centennial Authority has not discussed any financial terms for the renovations.

The board is expected to meet in December and decide if the project will move forward.
