Retired FDNY Captain Daniel Nigro Sr., the father of Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, has died.

Nigro joined the FDNY in 1946 and began his career at Ladder Company 6 in Manhattan.

During his 35 years in the department, he went on to work in Queens and the Bronx.

He was promoted to captain in 1958.

Nigro also served in the Army Air Corps and Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.

The captain is survived by two children, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His wife, Juanita, died in 1990.

Nigro was 94 years old.
