The Tri Cities Opera and Galaxy Brewing Company are teaming up to bring Binghamton a fun night of entertainment. Gabrielle Lucivero has the details.
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- When you think about Opera, you're usually thinking about a pretty fancy night out, right? Tri Cities Opera and Galaxy Brewing are looking to change that. And they'll do it with a little something called Opera and Beer.
On Tuesday night, resident singers from the Tri-Cities Opera will shake things up. As people enjoy Galaxy's craft brews, they say "Opera let's it's hair down," with 60 minutes of out of the box performances. Something they hope will encourage Binghamton to keep an open mind about Opera.
"It's gonna be gaudy, it's gonna be in your face. I mean, it's not the velvet curtain. It's not the singers standing on stage," said John Rozzoni, the Tri-Cities Opera community engagement manager.
"Opera in its first form, hundreds of years ago was a social event. Where people came they were drinkin', they were eatin' they were talking. You didn't have to sit quietly in your tuxedo," said Jake Stamatis, a Tri-Cities Opera resident artist.
But if you haven't got your tickets, you'll have to wait until next year -- the show on Tuesday is already sold out. And the show hasn't even happened yet, but both Galaxy's owners and the performers are thinking about when they can do it again.
