Thinking about food from concession stands typically doesn't make your mouth water. But Texas Longhorn football fans are in for a big treat this season. Our Alex Stockwell shares which Austin food joints are becoming a part of game day at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.

We're now about a month away from sports fans filling up DKR Stadium for some Longhorn football, and this season, the team isn't alone when it comes to introducing new faces.

The north end zone of DKR Stadium had a little makeover during the off season to give it some local flair.

New concession stands featuring favorites like Torchy's Tacos, Pluckers, and Austin's Pizza, will be available for fans to enjoy on game day.

University of Texas at Austin Men's Athletics Director Steve Patterson says the new food joints are expected to curb fans' cravings for tailgating near the stadium.

"They told us who they liked and who they wanted to see. So we had a chance to sit down with folks over the last few months as we've redone our concessions here," said Patterson.

Construction around that area won't allow for much of the long-held football tradition.

"It gives everybody a chance to have a pre-game tailgate type experience, particularly close to the stadium on the stadium grounds, to sort of make up for the lost parking and other areas that we've had to lose because of the construction here over the last few years," said Patterson.

Patterson said the University is spending several million dollars renovating concession stands at its athletic facilities.

"Just to be part of the whole experience is fun -- there's a lot of people here. I think it will help us sort of get our brand out there," said Torchy's founder Michael Rypka.

For some restaurant owners, they're making their return to the Forty Acres.

"I would have never dreamed of this when I was a student here, so it is really surreal," said Austin's Pizza owner JD Torian.

Local restaurants were approached back in May about possibly being part of the stadium's concession stands. It's a prospect they say was almost too good to be true.

"We're obviously honored that they asked us, and the exposure gets you on a level that I don't think can be achieved any other way," said Torian.

Considering their current location doesn't hold 100,000 hungry fans, it's a business deal these food vendors can devour.

Some of the new concession stands are still working on getting settled in at the stadium, but all of them should be up and running by the home opener against Rice on Sept. 12.
