In 2014, rush hour traffic in Austin ranked 10th in the nation, according to Texas A&M University’s Urban Mobility Scorecard report.
The annual report takes a look at traffic in more than 400 cities and towns across the nation. Its Travel Time Index measures how much longer a trip takes during rush hour compared to free-flow conditions. In that category, Austin tied with Houston.
The report also found that travel delays due to traffic congestion caused drivers to waste more than 3 billion gallons of fuel and kept travelers stuck in their cars for nearly 7 billion extra hours.
