Police in Newburgh are investigating another shooting in city, the third shooting in just a week. As Jackson Wang reports, many in the city are now pleading for peace.

NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Just after 11 p.m. Wednesday, a 22-year-old man walking alone was shot in the elbow and back in the area of Benkard Avenue and Little Monument Street, investigators said.

"So far we haven't had any witnesses come forward to the incident," said Joe Rutigliano, of the Newburgh Police Department.

Police said the victim was then taken to St Luke's Hospital by a private vehicle. They say his injuries are not life-threatening at this time.

"Right now we're just looking for anybody that may have any information or any witnesses that may have heard something in the area at that approximate time," Rutigliano said.

This latest shooting is the third in just a week, including the homicide of 67-year-old Sammy Stubbs.

"It's a shame because this guy was a standup guy and dressed to impress everyday," said Joe Alvarez, a Newburgh resident. "It didn't matter what he was doing."

Now Alvarez is organizing two community events, hoping to cure the violence.

"I believe that the only way to cure this cancer is basically keeping it really simple- acknowledging your brother and sister, respecting your brother and sister," Alvarez said.

Anyone with information regarding any of the shootings is asked to call Newburgh police.
