AUSTIN, Texas -- Teachers all across Central Texas are reporting back to school this week. But while they get ready for the new year, many school districts are desperately looking for more staff.
Substitute teachers are in short supply.
It could be because the job market is so hot, or living expense are too high for people to work as subs.
Eanes Independent School District is raising compensation rates from $90 to $100 a day.
Round Rock ISD is putting more emphasis on recruiting.
The disricts say subs are critical to helping teachers needing sick days.
"We want our teachers to be home to care for a sick child, be home when they are sick themselves, and be able to recuperate and be their best when they are in the classroom," said Corey Ryan with Round Rock ISD.
Round Rock opened up applications for substitute teachers on Monday.
Eanes is accepting applications as well.
