Austin police say the snake that may have killed a Temple man has been found dead.

Police found the snake, a monocled cobra, near the Lowe's parking lot off of Interstate 35, not far from the place it originally went missing.

Grant Thompson, 18, died earlier this week after police found him unconscious in his car near I-35 and Parmer Lane with puncture wounds on his wrist.

Thompson worked at a pet shop in his hometown of Temple, and the Temple Daily Telegram has reported he would show exotic animals to children.

Detectives believe the snake was in the car with him, but when they went to find it, it was missing.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
