ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A Rochester police officer suffered injuries in a crash on the city's west side Wednesday morning.

The Rochester police officer and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital following the crash. It happened just after 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Ames and Jay Street. An SUV collided with that RPD patrol car.

TWC News was told by an eye witness that the driver of the SUV ran the red light and t-boned the cop car. The police car, from the impact, was pushed into the side of the corner store Jim's Stop & Shop. That caused considerable damage inside the store, including to a cooler that the owner said he just had repaired at a cost of 6,000 dollars.

"I was doing a gentleman's lottery numbers and heard a crash out there and the next thing I knew the building was moving. This is the third time they've hit the building from somebody having an accident out there," said store owner Eddie Boss.

Boss said this store has been in his wife's family for the last seven years and is quite popular in the area.

There is no official report on the condition of those transported to the hospital. Word on the scene is both people will be OK including the police officer.
