After two days, New York State Police say they've finished interviewing David Sweat. During the interview process more details were leaked about the escape plans of Sweat and his accomplice Richard Matt.
Time Warner Cable News now knows that the two men conducted a practice run the night before the breakout.
Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie says the two men crawled through an underground utility tunnel, eventually poking their heads out of a manhole that they deemed to be too close to a neighborhood.
Fearing they'd be spotted, they decided to go through a more isolated manhole the next day, that beginning a more than three week manhunt.
Matt was shot dead Friday, Sweat was shot and taken into custody Sunday. He's still at Albany Medical Center, where he's been cooperating with authorities. His condition has been upgraded from serious to fair.
Meanwhile, three members of the facility’s executive team and nine security employees have been placed on administrative leave.
Prison tailor Joyce Mitchell and veteran correctional officer Gene Palmer have already been charged in connection to the escape.
