Latham Sonic Opens to Eager Customers

LATHAM, N.Y. -- There was a large turnout Monday for the highly-anticipated opening of the fast food chain Sonic Drive-In.

It's the first-ever Sonic near Albany, located just off Route 7 in Latham. The soft opening was held Monday and the grand opening will be held Monday, July 6.

The company's Director of Operations explains what separates Sonic from the competition.

"There's a drive thru here, there's a drive thru at many other establishments in the area. We have carstalls; no one else does. We have skating car hops; no one else does. We've got the Sonic spirit going on in the restaurant. Folks are kind of getting pounded in the kitchen, and they're all smiling, and they're thirsty," said Kurt Doolittle.

Starting Tuesday the Latham Sonic will be open during regular business hours, which are 6:30 a.m. to midnight.
