BRIGHTON, N.Y. -- Graduation ceremonies are going on all this month for local high school seniors who are just getting their diplomas, but on Thursday afternoon, a class which graduated during World War II got together to talk about old times.
At St. John's Meadows, Virginia Belt welcomed about a dozen of her former classmates, all who graduated John Marshall High School in 1943.
Between their 5th and 65th year reunions, the class had been reuniting only on landmark occasions. For the last seven years, however, they have been getting together annually. This year marks their 72nd reunion.
"My father was a civil engineer for the Board of Education, and he supervised the building of Marshall," said classmate Nancy Lyke.
A lot has changed since those days, and each year putting the reunion together becomes more and more difficult. There were originally 201 members of the Marshall Class of '43. Organizers of the reunion figure that there are now fewer than 75.
"Well, it's always nice to see the old friends," said Herm Pickles. "It's been very interesting every year, to see what's happened to them and how things are going."
For now, the graduates enjoy the company of those still here, catching up and planning to do it all again next year.
