CHARLOTTE -- This summer, roller coaster fans everywhere are looking at Carowinds and its new Fury 325.

“Everybody wants to ride the world’s tallest and fastest giga-coaster,” said Laresa Thompson.

The 6,600 foot long roller coaster rises 325 feet in the air and reaches 95 miles per hour.

People are impressed and thrilled by the ride’s speed and height, which put it into the giga coaster category.

There’s something special about having the newest, tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world.

“We’re making history in North and South Carolina,” said Thompson.

Fury 325 has a place of prominence at the park as patrons actually walk over the track as they make their entrance. As expected, when a place has the most spectacular new roller coaster anywhere, it draws crowds from far away

"We're amazed when people say, 'We drove from Michigan just to ride Fury 325,'" said Thompson.

Fury 325 has garnered attention from as far as China and Germany.

The new ride is just a part of an upgrade that is ongoing at Carowinds. This park is over 40 years old, so it must change to evolve and stay relevant.

Not all of the changes have to do with rides. Shows and entertainment have been added, and there are 40 new menu items reflecting the tastes of the Carolinas.

Additional parking has been added and the entrance has been improved to get visitors into the park quicker.

Carowinds has long been special locally as it sits directly on the North Carolina/South Carolina line.

Visitors will find a different experience at Carowinds this season and that will be the case next year, as well.
