The Port Authority has given the OK to begin the first phase of a multi-billion-dollar plan to bring LaGuardia Airport into the 21st century.
The Authority's Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to award LaGuardia Gateway Partners the massive redevelopment project.
Phase One includes demolishing the central terminal building and creating a new state-of-the-art facility, including a new central entry portal and unifying unconnected terminals.
Those were reccomendations made by Governor Andrew Cuomo's Airport Advisory Panel. Cuomo created the panel in January to advise him and the Port Authority on how to reimagine LaGuardia and Kennedy airports.
The full plan is expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
