CHARLOTTE—Three Davidson College students are facing serious drug charges.

Senior Jordan Owenbey and junior Gabriel Gonzales-Portillo were arrested on Tuesday. The third student was cited for possession. Police found marijuana, LSD, cocaine, $5,000 and a shotgun in an off-campus apartment earlier this week.

Although the legal consequences the students could face are clear, there is still no official word on how the college could punish them.

The student handbook on the school's website says the school will take all actions, "necessary and consistent with state and federal law and college policy, to eliminate the use of illegal drugs within the davidson community."

The policy also states:

"Any member of the college community who uses illegal drugs or abuses any drug, might be subject to prosecution and punishment by civil authorities and to disciplinary proceedings by the college.

Students on  campus say drugs don't play much of a role at their school.

"The party scene is definitely secondary to academics. Most people will not go out on Friday or Saturday night if they have too much work to do the next week,” said freshman Quin Brown.

Davidson College released a statement which said in part that the incident did not pose a threat to the school, and they'll continue to keep the Davidson community and public up to date on any important information.
