RALEIGH -- A new apartment complex could be on the way for the Ridgewood Shopping Center off of Wade Ave.

The six story building would be used as residential and retail space.

It would sit across from the Whole Foods Market where the Bruegger's Bagels and Tripps restaurant are located.

Neighbors who live in the residential area around the center spoke against the proposal during a city Appearance Commission meeting on Thursday, saying they are worried about additional traffic and parking issues.

"It's not really going to improve the character of the neighborhood," said resident Bob Sexton. "I think it is going to be a detriment to the home owners. We have lived there over 25 years."

The commission gave the developers several suggestions. The commission will eventually pass their recommendations over to the city planning commission for approval.
