WILMINGTON -- UNC Wilmington will soon offer a Master of Fine Arts in filmmaking.

The UNC Board of Governors approved the three year program last week which will include courses in cinematography, screenwriting, editing, sound design, producing and directing.

School officials say it's important to keep up with an ever-changing field.

"As film grows beyond just the feature film and television industry, you know, the medium is changing in what a movie is and how they watch movies. We're really excited to have be making that next generation of film makers that are going to be taking the medium in all these new directions,” said Dave Monahan, chair, Department of Film Studies, UNCW.

The program is expected to launch next year.
