ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Megan McDonald will remain in federal prison until a judge decides, as soon as Wednesday, if she can be eligible for bail.
McDonald, 35, is accused of taking pictures of a four and one year old child and sending those images to a man, Jason Cortese, who also faces child pornogrpahy charges.
For McDonald family friend Mary Klim, the allegations leave her speechless.
"I can't, you know I'm not sure," said Klim. "I love her dearly, but I can't believe it."
The longtime friend has unwavering support for McDonald. She sat down on a bench outside federal court and expressed her frustration at the situation. She said this in front of one of the victim's mother McDonald is accused of photographing.
"She needs someone on her side too," Klim said.
Klim believes McDonald's charges are, in her words, "ridiculous."
"I said it was five years ago, why are they waiting until now to bring it all up?" Klim asked.
The answer: In March, Cortese was arrested by the FBI on similar charges. The 911 operator is accused of enticing a 12-year-old girl and sending her child porn.
The girl's family turned him in, and her step-mother was in the courtroom for the detention hearing. She tells us McDonald babysat the kids, and even stayed with them when she had nowhere to go.
McDonald's attorney says he hopes she will be allowed to make bail since he feels she isn't a danger to the community.
"At this point, they are all allegations," Joel Krane, McDonald's defense attorney said. "I guess how we'll see this plays out in court."
Klim says she hopes the judge realizes this was uncharacteristic of her old friend.
"She is a very nice person, she is kind, she would do anything for her kids," Klim said.
The U.S. District Attorney's Office says it hopes to keep McDonald in prison. If McDonald is let out, her attorney says she most likely will not be moving back in with her parents where her children are staying.
