JAMESVILLE, N.Y. -- Authorities said the dog that was stuck in a hole at Clarks Reservation in Jamesville has been successfully rescued.
Officials said a couple was walking in the park with their doberman at about 6:30 p.m., when it crawled head-first into crevasse about 15 to 20 feet deep and couldn't get out.
The dog was off its leash at the time, which is against park rules but state park police and the Jamesville Fire Department both responded to the scene and worked to get the dog free.
The dog was rescued around 2:30 a.m. thanks to a gentleman who was into roping and spelunking, and was small enough to get down into the hole.
He then harnessed the dog, who was taken to the vet for some needed medical attention.
The dog's current condition is unknown.
