CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte City Council, on Monday night, will hear details of a plan to change how Charlotte's 250,000 water customers are billed.
Charlotte Water wants to realign billing cycles to shorten the time between meter reading and billing.
Right now, customers receive their bills about three weeks after their meter is read but utilities officials want to shorten the gap to eight days so customers can spot leaks sooner and avoid large bills.
The Charlotte water director will also discuss water rates and could unveil a proposed rate increase ahead of the city council's budget planning process in the spring.
