LIBERTY, N.Y. -- All eyes are on the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty, after what county officials are calling a lack of management there.
"It’s their responsibly to make sure their residents are taken care of all the time," said Sullivan County Legislator Cora Edwards.
She said the Liberty nursing home was left without power after its generator failed Thursday morning.
Officials said it was out for hours with room temperatures reaching the low 60s.
The state Department of Health said several patients were sent to the hospital for evaluation.
"We want to make sure our most vulnerable population, our elderly, our seniors and our disabled are taken care of," said Edwards.
The County's Public Safety Commissioner Richard Martinkovic said a new generator was temporarily brought in Thursday night and the department of health has since been on site.
He said the nursing home had been running on a generator since late spring when its electrical cable broke.
Martinkovic said the privately-run nursing home never fixed it or notified the county.
"I believe there is a new management team that is running the place who have come in the last few months and I know for a fact that they did not know what was the proper procedure in Sullivan County," said Martinkovic.
He said this isn't the first time the nursing home has lost power. He said it also happened in December.
"We didn't know about any of this last Thursday, we should've been notified immediately," said Martinkovic.
He said nursing home administration's have since ordered the parts to repair the broken electrical cable, though he said it's unknown when it'll arrive.
But he assures, discussions with the nursing home will take place.
The nursing home declined to comment on this story.
