Tornadoes are responsible for some of the storm damage that occurred in North Carolina Thursday evening.

What You Need To Know

  • Strong to severe thunderstorms produced damage on March 18

  • Three tornadoes are confirmed so far

  • Straight-line winds are also responsible for some damage

As of Friday afternoon, National Weather Service damage survey crews found three tornado tracks.

The first was in High Point in Guilford County. It was originally rated an EF-0, but additional information led to an upgrade to EF-1.

Another tornado moved through Whitsett, crossing from Guilford into Alamance County. It was rated an EF-1.

Another EF-1 tornado moved through northwestern Orange County.

Finally, damage in Northampton County east of Roanoke Rapids was caused by straight-line winds.

The National Weather Service plans to continue surveying damage into the weekend to determine what was caused by tornadoes and by straight-line winds.

These tornadoes occurred just outside our own local "tornado alley."
