CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets guard Malik Monk was suspended, without pay, by the NBA on Wednesday for violating the league's anti-drug policy.

No details have been given as to what substance Monk may have used, but the NBA says he will remain suspended until he is, "determined to be in full compliance with the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program."

Monk has appeared in 55 games this season for Charlotte, averaging 10.3 points per game.  Prior to Tuesday night's loss to Indiana, Monk had averaged 16 points per contest over his last 10 games, shooting nearly 40 percent from the three-point line.

The Hornets released a statement on the suspension just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, "The Charlotte Hornets are disappointed in Malik’s decision making that resulted in his suspension. As an organization, we do not condone his behavior. However, we are committed to supporting Malik during this time."

The Hornets host the New York Knicks Wednesday night.
