DURHAM, N.C. – LCI is working to create more equal opportunities for people with disabilities.

For 84 years, the nonprofit has created jobs for people who are blind and have low vision, currently employing more than 335 people with vision loss.

The president, Jeffrey Hawting, says they want to call attention to their workers during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

"People who are blind have the same dreams and aspirations as any other person on the planet," Hawting says. "They want to raise a family. They want to save for retirement. They want to go on vacation. They want to have a job...and that's what LCI provides."

LCI is a provider of manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, retail, and technology consulting solutions. The company, in partnership with Walk West, is launching a new joint venture called Ablr.

Ablr offers businesses solutions that remove the digital barriers for people with disabilities.

According to LCI, 20% of Americans still cannot access digital media.

The goal is to ensure full participation in digital experiences such as education, healthcare, retail, and employment that is accessible to everybody.
