RAEFORD, N.C. – Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin met with Spectrum News anchor Tim Boyum before the public memorial of George Floyd on Saturday in Raeford.

Peterkin described how and where change must come if Floyd’s death becomes relevant in solving police brutality toward black people.

First, law enforcement must gain the trust of black people.

“So, being a black officer, they look at us, they don’t trust us. You’re black. Then they look at the fact that you’re black and they question it. It’s tough,” Peterkin says.

Peterkin touched on a variety of subjects during the intriguing interview.
