RALEIGH, N.C. -- Murphy's Naturals is typically working hard this time of year to produce its line of bug repellents.

But this season is different. The team is working hard to produce hand sanitizer instead.

"We were tired of seeing the 'out of supply' situation," said Philip Freeman, CEO of Murphy's Naturals. "We were tired of seeing the gouging that was going on."

The company initially planned to only make enough to give away to its co-working community.

The recipients of its donations are now public workers and charities.

The company is selling the sanitizer to the public on its website, but Freeman said sales are not at the heart of the work.

"The best part is quite frankly the fact that we are doing others good, that we are making a difference and it is helping," Freeman said. "We've had everybody from all over the country reaching out. We can't help everyone, but we can sure have an impact in the local community."

There is currently a waiting list for the sanitizer, but those who sign up will receive a notification whenever a batch is ready for sale.
