LILLINGTON, N.C. — Health leaders throughout the Sandhills said they have a better idea of how to handle a coronavirus outbreak.

Tuesday, Fort Bragg hosted a discussion panel, giving health experts different scenarios if, or when, central North Carolina was exposed. Health leaders said their first step is running tests through the state health department, followed by isolation and treatment.

As of March 3, there is only one confirmed case in North Carolina, but health leaders want to stay prepared.

"We would be in constant contact with the state health department and also the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention," Health Director at Cumberland County Health Department Jennifer Green said. "Depending on what other partners are involved, we'd be in contact with Fort Bragg or any other counties that would be involved in the case."

Community health leaders said they'll continue to monitor the virus and stay up to date on the best ways to handle a possible outbreak.
