WEST END, N.C. – A fire at a Watts Auman Farm chicken house in Moore County killed 19,000 chickens on Thursday.

The fire began around 9:40 p.m., and first responders found “flames and heavy smoke coming from the chicken house.” It took multiple fire units 40 minutes to get the fire under control.
Only a few chickens in the chicken house survived.
The Watts Auman Farm is associated with Perdue Farms, another identical house was unharmed, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
