The strike was especially hard on people living in Robeson County. Many were still trying to recover from the hit delivered by Hurricane Matthew in 2016. When floodwaters from Florence forced many evacuations, it was the second time that residents had to leave their homes because of a hurricane.
Gov. Roy Cooper traveled to the community to pay tribute to the many volunteers that are still trying to help people recover from both Matthew and Florence. The governor has made many trips to this community during his administration.
Florence caused massive damage to this community and Robeson County. More than 11,000 people needed some kind of assistance and officials say the total damages probably exceeded $50,000,000.
