WAKE COUNTY, N.C. – The Wake County Sheriff's Office said a man who stabbed several family members before going on the run is now in custody.

Carl Barkley was taken into custody Monday morning in Rocky Mount. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.

The incident happened on Gamble Drive in southeast Wake County Sunday night.

The stabbing victims include Barkley's wife and three other family members, including a 16-year-old boy who is in critical condition, according to authorities.

The victims have been identified as Brenda Barkley, 53, Adonnas Barkley, 23, Aaliyah Barkley, 22, and Aaron Barkley, 16.

Brenda Barkley is the suspect's wife and is in stable condition.

There is no word on what prompted the stabbings.

Barkley has a lengthy criminal history and is a registered sex offender. He remained jailed Monday afternoon under no bond.
