Police say 34-year-old Melinda Reeves was observed shoplifting at the Walmart in Clayton on Tuesday. When confronted Reeves fled the store.

Officers searched the parking lot, but could not find her so they checked security cameras.

They were able to determine what car Reeves had come to the store in and, when they investigated it closer, they found her hiding in the trunk drenched in sweat and, according to her, a Mountain Dew she poured on herself in order to stay cool.

Officers searched Reeve’s bag and located a bottle of wine, a package of laundry detergent and a small Little Mermaid children`s toy, worth a total of $16.83.

Reeves was charged with shoplifting/misdemeanor larceny and formally trespassed from any and all Walmart properties. She was taken to the Johnston County jail and placed on a $2,500 secured bond.
