Kristen Thompson, 38, appeared in court Thursday charged with felony communicating a mass violence threat against Pathways Elementary School outside Hillsborough. She worked there as a special needs teacher for less than a year.

Court documents revealed that she warned three other teachers that if she said "the squash is ripe" that they should leave the building. She also told a fourth teacher that if she doesn't come in and shoot up the school then it's a good day. She then resigned from her position on May 17 and police arrested her four days after that.

In court, a judge issued a $1,000 bond. Thompson is ordered to stay away from any Orange County school and not to have a weapon. Thompson told the judge she didn't have a weapon.

Meanwhile, the county has increased security at the school.

"I'd like the community to know that we are working closely with law enforcement to continue the safety of all of our buildings, all of our events, and our students and our staff," said Chief Communications Officer Seth Stephens of Orange County Schools.

Thompson is due back in court next month.
