RALEIGH, N.C. -- We've seen a tranquil weather pattern for most of this week. Unfortunately we will see a more active weather pattern as we head into the weekend.

  • High pressure, which has controlled our weather for most of this past week, is now backing away from the Carolina coast
  • This will give us the chance for a few showers and storms Friday afternoon and evening
  • By the end of the weekend, many areas may see upwards of an inch or more of rain

High pressure, which has controlled our weather for most of this past week, is now backing away from the Carolina coast.  As it does so, it will allow for a cold front to approach the area on Friday.

This will give us the chance for a few showers and storms Friday afternoon and evening.

The front is expected to stall across North Carolina for several days. As waves a low pressure move along this stationary front, we'll see several waves of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and on Sunday. By the end of the weekend, many areas may see upwards of an inch or more of rain.

At this point, we are not expecting severe weather from this weekend's storms.  However, we will need to keep an eye on the possibility of locally heavy rain with a few storms.

A dry weather pattern should return by early next week.
