HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. -- An EF0 tornado is confirmed to have touched down in northeastern North Carolina in Halifax County near the Virginia line early Monday morning.

Reported Monday: Severe Weather Downs Trees, Damages Homes

A man and his mother said it tore through their home while they were sleeping. He says he was thrown from his bed –and his mattress and other debris landed on top of him.

Somehow, they both made it out with only a few scratches.

"We are blessed, so blessed. Looking at the house now, you wouldn't have thought we would make it out like that,” said Brian Richardson.

The home was ripped from its foundation and the roof was blown off. The National Weather Service determined the tornado traveled about a mile and a half.
