  • Anyone with information is asked to call  919-942-7515.

It happened outside the 140 West Franklin Condominiums in Chapel Hill on February 6.

Authorities say the confrontation started when a 70-year-old tenant told a group young people not to ride bikes or skateboard near the entrance.

Shortly after, a 52-year-old maintenance worker intervened and threatened to call 911 on the group. As he dialed, a member of the group attacked him and hit him with a skateboard.

“He punched him in the face and knocked him out and while he was on the ground, he continued to punch him in the face and whacked him in the head with a skateboard,” says Community Manager Dawne Laurencin.

Laurencin says the employee suffered a broken nose, nerve damage, and swelling in his face. The worker hasn't returned to the job since the attack.

Police are now looking for the suspect and his friends, including a woman.

Laurencin says the condo complex is reviewing its security measures to see if any improvements are needed.
