ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. – A missing 6-year-old boy in Robeson County has been found safe.

According to the sheriff’s office, the child’s mother says a friend stole her car with her son inside around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The car, the friend, and the child were found Saturday morning around 3 a.m. in South Carolina.

Sammie Smith, 46, of Lumberton is in custody and faces charges for possession of a stolen vehicle.

It is unclear if kidnapping charges are pending, but authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
