FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The mayor of Fayetteville, Mitch Colvin, is working on building a group called the Millennial Commission to keep young people in the city.

  • It's a plan the mayor created after realizing many college students leave the city after getting their degrees.
  • The plan is to create a better quality of life for young adults, more job opportunities and have more nightlife and entertainment options.
  • He hopes people who want to share ideas can apply in the next 30 days.

It's a plan he created after realizing many college students leave the city after getting their degrees. Colvin said the commission will consist of 19 to 40 year olds who provide ideas to city council.

The plan is to create a better quality of life for young adults, more job opportunities and have more nightlife and entertainment options.

"We oftentimes are nowhere near being compared to Raleigh or Charlotte whereas we do have opportunities for that, they just need to be marketed to that population and be more innovative to where those people who are in that age group want to come and take advantage of those opportunities," Fayettevile resident, Kayla McLoughlin said.

The mayor said city council is building the framework then the commission will officially start. He hopes people who want to share ideas can apply in the next 30 days.
