RALEIGH, N.C. -- Heavy rain overnight will give way to an Arctic blast for Sunday and Sunday night.

Rain, heavy at times, will be with us overnight in advance of a strong system tracking along the Ohio River Valley. Our high temperatures Sunday will be before sunrise in the mid to upper 50s.

Then, strong northwest winds will bring cold air in and temperatures will fall through the day. Afternoon temperatures for many will range in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Winds will be gusty out of the northwest between 10-25 mph with gusts that may be as high as 30 mph.

Temperatures will continue to plummet Sunday night into Monday morning. Lows will likely fall into the teens to low 20s, allowing for the wind chill to potentially dive into the single digits. This cold stretch is expected to last through Tuesday.
