CARY, N.C. -- A crash caused by a high-speed chase closed down U.S. 1 southbound near U.S. 64 for several hours Wednesday evening.

Officials say a Wake County sheriff's deputy was traveling over 100 miles per hour while chasing a dark Volkswagen.

That car then crashed into the back of another vehicle. 

Two people were hospitalized as a result of the crash. Their conditions have not been released.

Traffic caused by the crash backed up for several miles, stalling traffic coming from downtown Raleigh and I-40. 

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.

No identites have been released in this case, and charges have not yet been specified.
