RALEIGH, N.C. -- More details have been released in the shooting that seriously injured a Raleigh police officer last week.

MORE: Officer Charles Ainsworth was on duty last week when he was shot multiple times.

NEW DETAILS

In the report, it says Officer Ainsworth was asked to look into a possible carjacking when suspect Cedric Kearney pulled out a gun, shooting him multiple times in the face and neck "at very close range" before taking off.

This sparked a chase that ended at a storage unit on Wendy Lane where police say the suspect was hiding.

Officer Ainsworth was taken to the hospital and has had multiple surgeries in the last five days.

Thursday, police say they want to search three vehicles, two cell phones and an apartment on Teakwood Place. Police say they found a gun as well as sunglasses and shoes which are believed to be from a Holly Springs home at the apartment.

They determined the breaking and entering happened about an hour before officers arrived for a report of the possible carjacking.

They also took two phones from the scene, one appears to belong to Kearney. The other belonged to another suspect, Sherry Richmond, who police say admitted to not only being in a romantic relationship with Kearney, but also who used a dating app to lure a victim into having his Dodge Dart stolen.

Police arrived after hearing about the stolen Dodge. The officers say they asked the two men at the scene, Kearney, and another man at the scene, Antonio Fletcher, to put their hands up. Only Fletcher complied. That's when Kearney pulled out the gun and began shooting.

Police say Amonie Fletcher, the sister of Antonio Fletcher, was in Holly Springs with Kearney an hour before Officer Ainsworth was shot. They say she helped Kearney break into the home and attempt to break into the Dodge Dart.

They've charged Kearney with attempted murder, assault on a law enforcement officer, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He received an additional charge Thursday evening of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm on Officer B.A. Halpin, who was with Officer Ainsworth at the time of the shooting.

Richmond is charged with armed robbery and Fletcher is being charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
