CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Local leaders are tackling two big discussions in the next town council meeting.

  • Council recently decided to create a Varsity Theatre task force to consider the possible use of the longtime landmark theatre as a community performing arts center.
  • The second issue is regarding Bird, a dockless scooter-share company, who dropped off its scooters around town back in August
  • Those interested in attending Wednesday night's meeting can arrive at town hall on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 7 p.m.

The first is talk about the historic Varsity Theatre that sits on Franklin Street.

Council recently decided to create a Varsity Theatre task force.

The purpose of the group is to consider the possible use of the longtime landmark theatre as a community performing arts center.

The theatre has struggled to stay afloat for some time.

The second issue is regarding Bird, a dockless scooter-share company, who dropped off its scooters around town back in August.

Town leaders had them removed in one day saying they needed to make sure the right ordinances were in place to ensure safety and proper use.

Those interested in attending Wednesday night's meeting can arrive at town hall on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 7 p.m.
