NORTH CAROLINA -- Clouds lingered above for most of the day but clearer skies are on the way. Weak high pressure is building into the region and skies will continue to gradually clear tonight. After a cool day in the 40s and 50s, temperatures will rest in the upper 20s to low 30s overnight.

Unlike today, Wednesday will be a bright and sunny day from beginning to end. With the extra amount of sunshine, temperatures will be warmer in the mid 50s Wednesday afternoon. This above average setting will continue Thursday and Friday as highs reach near 60 degrees.

During this time a cold front will advance into the region bringing the return of showers late Thursday night into Friday morning. After morning rain Friday, dry conditions will remain in place until another round of rain arrives Saturday.

After the weekend, a blast of arctic air will flow into the area Sunday night into Monday. Lows Sunday night will be well below the lower 20s.

Highs will struggle to warm up through a mostly sunny day. Average highs for this time of year are around 50 degrees, highs Monday will peak in the mid 30s. Thankfully this cold stretch will be short and temperatures will climb to near normal by the middle of next week.
